Do you ever have to improvise, either to save money, or just because you’re in a pinch? Creatively using time, money, and other resources, is exactly what frugal living is about.
So, what you do when the kids break the toilet paper holder?
You might laugh, but it wasn’t too funny when I walked into the master bathroom the other day and found a roll of toilet paper on the floor. I looked up to see why and noticed that the toilet paper dispenser was broken.
Maybe I should explain a bit. The dispenser in that bathroom was a different design than the type that probably comes to mind. It resembled a sideways “U.” The roll of paper just slips onto the open end, and is just as easy to slip off. I thought it looked cool when I bought it.
I have to admit, I was also secretly thinking that since it was so simple, anyone could change the roll of toilet paper, instead of leaving the empty roll.
Anyway, “Nobody” was apparently here without my knowledge and snapped off the piece that holds the roll of paper. I didn’t want to leave toilet paper sitting on the floor, and I was afraid if I set it on the toilet tank, Nobody would probably come along and knock it into the toilet.
I was very busy that day and didn’t have time to shop for a new dispenser, remove the old one, and install the new one. This is where the improvising comes in. This is also where my habit of holding onto things, because I just know I’ll need them later comes in.
I had recently replaced a self-standing paper towel rack in the kitchen with a wall mounted one, so I dug out the old one and placed it in the bathroom to hold toilet paper. I’ll get around to replacing the old dispenser soon, but this idea worked in a pinch.
