Here in Colorado, we never know what kind of weather Easter will bring. We’ve had some gorgeous Easters where we hunted for eggs outside in short sleeved shirts and sundresses. We’ve also had a lot of Easters where we had more than a few inches of snow. Most of the time we put on our coats and snow boots and go outside anyway, and joke that it would have been harder to find the eggs if we’d left them white!
During one snowy Easter we found out that dyed eggs leave a little bit of color behind in the snow. So when we made a bunny shaped snowman we used a little blue snow for his eyes and a little pink for his nose. Not exactly a traditional Easter activity, but one we’ll always remember.
When we can’t go outside, we have a egg hunt inside. I don’t let the kids hide the hard-boiled eggs because I’m always afraid one or two will get lost. Besides, plastic works just as well. Last year, on a whim I bought a bag of Wonka Zero Gravity Eggs. Since we had below zero degree weather on Easter last year, they came in very handy. These eggs come with in different styles that let you hide eggs practically anywhere! Some have a suction cup on the end, so you can stick them to windows, or mirrors, or smooth surfaces like refrigerators. Some have a sticky gel on them so they can stick to walls, or under tables, or even the ceiling! Other eggs have strings so they can be hung from lights, or branches, or ears. And the other eggs actually glow in the dark!
These “zero gravity” eggs made our inside Easter egg hunt extra fun. After all, if you can hide eggs on the ceiling, the walls, or behind Mom’s ear – finding the eggs is much more challenging!
I don’t know yet what Sunday’s weather will be like, but I know we’ll have fun just the same.
