In Decorating Don’t Assume

As a collector of owls of all sorts, pottery, wood, glass, ceramics etc my owls were taking over the coffee tables in the lounge room. That’s three tables. And the result was that they all looked cluttered.

Originally, Mick was going to make a rookery for them. But then we saw the CD towers advertised. They were inexpensive and in a cherry color that fitted in with the rest of the furniture in that room, so we went and bought one. The tower is about 6 foot 6 inches high, 7 inches deep and 15 inches wide. It makes a perfect home for my owls.

The middle shelf is fixed. The rest are not. By staggering the shelves at different heights, it now looks like it was made for the owls.

Given the number of owls I have that still left quite a number on the coffee table and they looked so good in their new home we decided to buy another tower for the rest. We now have the towers flanking the book case and for the first time you can really see each owl clearly.

Our dog is quite funny. She keeps sticking her nose into the space were there is a medium sized grey and black and white crocheted owl. I think she thinks it’s another animal like her.

Visitors we had recently thought we must have made them to fit the owls and, in a way, we did by adjusting the shelves. Each pigeon hole (that should be owl nest) has space for one large owl or sometimes two or three smaller owls. Everyone who has visited our house recently has commented on how effective it looks. So be a little creative sometimes when you look at things. They might well have another use than that for which they were intended.
