Each year, we lose so many famous people. Here are a few that died in 2009:
January 1 – Jett Travolta (16)
Although not a celebrity himself, Jett was the son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, who tragically died on the first day of the New Year while vacationing with his parents in The Bahamas. The death certificate listed cause of death as a seizure.
January 13 – Patrick McGoohan (80)
McGoohan was the star of ‘60s shows “Danger Man” and “The Prisoner.” He also starred as Edward Longshanks in Braveheart. He died after a brief illness.
January 14 – Ricardo Montalban (88)
Montalban was a radio, television, theatre, and film actor whose career spanned seven decades. He was especially loved as Mr. Roarke of “Fantasy Island.” Montalban died of congestive heart failure.
January 27 – John Updike (76)
Updike was an American author whose most famous work was the Rabbit novel series. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Rabbit Is Rich and Rabbit At Rest. Updike died of lung cancer.
February 6 – James Whitmore (87)
Whitmore was a television, theatre, and film actor who won a Tony Award in 1948. He died of lung cancer.
February 28 – Paul Harvey (90)
Harvey was a broadcaster best known for his The Rest of the Story segments which began as part of Harvey’s segment during World War II.
March 11 – Charles Lewis, Jr. (46)
Lewis was the co-founder of TapouT clothing line and is the only non-fighter to be named to the UFC Hall of Fame. Lewis died in a car crash.
March 14 – Altovise Davis (65)
Davis, a dancer, was best known as the widow of Sammy Davis, Jr. She died of complications due to a stroke.
March 15 – Ron Silver (62)
Silver was a television and film actor who served as the Actors Equity Association president for nine years. Later in life, Silver became a political activist who spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention. Silver died of esophageal cancer.
