Incorporate Gospel Teaching Into Your Family’s Daily Life

One of the best things that we can do for our families is to have a gospel centered home. It is important to create opportunities to teach your children the gospel. You should also be ready to discuss any problems or questions that your children may have. It helps them to hear a gospel perspective on the problem.

One easy way to create opportunities to teach your children the gospel is to have a theme that you focus on for the month. You can choose your theme by choosing basic topics or you may want to choose a specific conference talk or family home evening lesson. You should pick one scripture for the theme. In addition you may want to choose a scripture or quote on the theme to discuss with your family each day.

You can carry the theme into your lives every day in several different ways. You may want to display something in your home that represents the theme. You can encourage your family members to memorize the scripture by offering a treat at the end of the month for those who pass it off. You may need to set different expectations for your younger children.

You can plan each of your family home evening lessons for the month around the theme. This is especially helpful for younger children, since it helps them to truly grasp the concept when it is repeated several times. If you have older children it is easy to study the principle more closely by dividing it into four different parts.

In addition you can have a discussion about the theme based on the scripture or quote that you have chosen for each day. You can do this for your family scripture study if you have really small children or in addition to it. Be sure that you discuss the blessings that each theme has in it.

Additionally you may want to plan a family activity that is based on the theme each month. For example if you are studying temples you can plan a trip to the temple grounds or family history center. If you are focusing on charity, you can complete a family service project. If you are focusing on nature or gratitude you can plan a hike and discuss the blessings of nature.

You may want to consider planning smaller craft activities that support the theme. “The Friend” is a great resource for gospel related crafts and coloring pages. You can also plan games around the theme. This really incorporates the theme into your daily activities.
