Increasing Energy with Yoga

When adults watch children play, sooner or later someone invariably says, “I wish I had that energy.” Lack of energy is a common complaint among adults for a wide range of reasons. Forget the energy drinks or loading up on caffeine and try yoga to increase your energy level.

Yoga is an excellent way to energize and awaken the body in the morning. Even a short fifteen minute practice is enough to skip the morning cup of coffee, or at least keep it to one cup!

The beauty of energizing the body with yoga is you will feel awakened and energized without the side effects of coffee or energy drinks. You will feel energized, yet calm, rather than keyed up and shaky – only to experience a crash later.

Yoga can be used to energize the body at any time of the day. Although many people find that morning is a great time to awaken with yoga, it is also excellent for that afternoon slump. You can fit your practice into your day in whatever way works best for you.

Morning yoga DVD practices use a sequence of poses that is designed to gently awaken the body. While the individual practice, poses and sequences will vary from practice to practice, there are some similarities.

Most DVDs will begin with slow and gentle stretching to begin to awaken and warm up the body. The practice will likely include several poses known for energizing the body, such as cobra, forward bend, downward facing dog, seated twist and many others.

Most yoga types will naturally enhance your energy and leaving you feeling awake and alive. For an added jolt, try a vinyasa flow class or a power yoga class. The continual movement in these classes is the perfect way to get the energy flowing through the body. They are also great for keeping your weight under control.
