Inexpensive Home Decorating Ideas

Decorating your home is a very individual thing. When money is tight decorating becomes more of a challenge but far from impossible.

Some of the things we have tried in past times were using photographs and pictures from calendars. Framing them in inexpensive frames and grouping them together as a display.

Gift wrapping paper can also be used the same way. Select papers that complement each in design and color. Frame them and then arrange in a diamond pattern or some other interesting combination one wall.

Stencils are another inexpensive way of brightening up a home and relatively inexpensive and easy to use.

Paint is still an inexpensive way to freshen up a home. You might choose to have one wall a feature wall of another color. This idea died out for a while but appears to be making a come back as many display homes use this technique. You can also buy suede look paints and other variations. These are a bit more expensive but can add an interesting look.

We often bought furniture cheaply at garage sales and auctions and then did it up. You can strip back and re-varnish, or paint. If you’re very crafty, you might decide to folk art a piece like a dresser, a coffee table or some other piece of furniture.

A baby’s room can be brightened with a mural painted on it. I did this when our daughter was young and believe me I’m no artist but I could copy pictures well enough to produce some simple animals and a tree that would appeal to a child.

Flowers will always brighten a room. If you grow your own you can bring some inside. One of my favorites is orchids. Yes they can be quite expensive to begin with but once you have one, it will multiply. We had one orchid and when we were moving we divided it, and give one to three of our friends. Several years later one of the divided orchids had grown so much, one friend had 16 flower spikes on the one orchid. Imagine that display. When it is flowering you can bring it inside where it will flower for months. We have just put two of ours outside. They have been flowering in the dining room for several months.
