As you may know, we are exploring our options with a kitchen makeover. We don’t want to spend the time or money for a complete redesign, but we do need an update. If you are in the same situation or you just want a mini update, check out these inexpensive kitchen make over ideas.
Remove the doors from upper corner cabinets or the cabinet above the stove to create a new look. Having some open cabinets can add to the feeling of more space and a larger kitchen. If your cabinets are like mine, old and lined with floral stuck-hard contact paper, sand and paint the inside of the open cabinets with a bold or contrasting color.
You can remove the lower doors and add wicker baskets for storage below. This would give the kitchen a real family country look. The baskets could hold linens, small kitchen utensils and more.
If you have glass cabinets that are always showing the kitchen clutter (and after all, who really has time to keep mugs perfectly straight, sippy cups hidden behind nicer glasses, etc.) then try this trick. Install small cafe curtains using tiny rods to hide the contents and dress up the cabinets. A plaid fabric adds to a country feel, while polka dots are fun and retro. Feeling a little conservative? Choose a plain solid-colored fabric that matched the existing color of the cabinets.
Paint the cabinets white and add bold black cabinet pulls for a dramatic statement that looks as if it is custom designed. This is one of the ideas that we are currently considering. I’m not sure what color we will choose for walls just yet. Perhaps a traditional yellow or a warm orange might brighten up the space. I would love to see a rich read, but my husband is against that idea. Plus, a dark color would probably darken the space even more.
