The first week of 2007 has been an inspiring week for this Insurance Blogger! Not only because I have some great ideas and insurance things to write about–but, also because I have learned a few new things about Insurance myself.

Many of your are aware that my husband and I are adoptive parents of special needs siblings from the foster care system. I wrote many Adoption Blogs at Families.com before I took this position writing about insurance. It’s refreshing to be thinking about issues other then the special needs our children, Makala age 9 and Jeremiah age 5 have as a result of abuse and neglect before becoming our children.
This week my two-worlds have merged, and I have learned more then I ever wanted to know about Insurance and mental illness, and mental health treatment. I can’t say I’m very happy about some of the lessons I have learned this past week in relation to our Employer Provided Group Health Insurance plan. I won’t even mention our insurance provided by name–I’m sure they are just the same as others across the industry. Over the next several weeks, I’m sure I will be writing more about this journey. The first Blog about Mental Health and Insurance was published last week, outlining the statistics for mental health disorders in the United States.
Keeping with the other side of my life–sort of–I wrote a Blog about specialty insurance for parents waiting to adopt a newborn baby. While Adoption Insurance is only available for domestic, children under the age of 2, adopted privately these adoption situations are generally very expensive for adoptive parents, and carry a great level of risk. Potential adoptive parents may want to consider the option of managing the risk and purchase Adoption Insurance.
The First Blog in the “Ask Anna” category was published outlining what portion of an auto insurance policy covers the damages caused by a Hit-and-Run driver. A must read because, in many cases this portion of auto insurance is optional coverage and policyholders may be upset when they learn damage from a hit-and-run driver might not be covered on your policy!
I wrote up a little outline of what the bones (form) for the basic dwelling fire insurance policy is. The Standard Fire Insurance Form is the basis for most Homeowner, Renters or building owners property insurance policies. Like the basic model of a new car stripped down to the factory minims The Standard fire form is to the majority of other personal property policies. Added options make up homeowner, renters and building insurance policies. I also added some basic information about Renters Insurance.
The other area I touched on this week is the Pension Protection Act of 2006 and an overview of the Roth IRA for those of us who are actually starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel for retirement!
This coming week looks like it will be interesting! Between writing I will be negotiating with medical insurance to see to it our daughter has her needs met. My journey may be good for a few good Blogs, nothing like an irritated retired insurance agent taking on the big insurance company! I will be keeping you posted, and plan to make some more updates in my Families.com journal!
