Insurance Company Fights “The Expendables”

The Expendables You may have seen the movie “The Expendables” when it hit the theaters last year. It is definitely an action movie, and it featured a lot of big name, famous, actors. All action movies end up being covered by one insurance company or another, for obvious reasons. Right now, the production company that made “The Expendables” is fighting with their insurance company.

Alta Vista Productions is the name of the production company that made the movie called “The Expendables”. Some of the action stars involved in the movie are big name action stars that most people would immediately recognize. These stars include: Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. These are actors who have each held quite a few major roles in other action movies over the years. One could say that these actors have made their career out of being an action star.

All movies, especially action movies that involve stunts, and other potentially dangerous scenes, require insurance. Accidents could happen, which would not only be unfortunate, but also could potentially slow down, or end, the production. It also covers the cost incurred by a production that was delayed by an actor who got sick, a set that got damaged, or to replace props that were stolen.

The insurance company for the production of “The Expendables” is St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Company. The production company, and the insurance company, are currently fighting over reimbursement of over $1 million dollars.

While the movie was being produced, Jason Statham got sick. He had to undergo some minor surgery in order to have a growth removed from his throat. This required a two week hiatus where the actor could not be on the set, working on the movie. Sylvester Stallone broke his ankle while filming the movie, and had to stop working long enough to have that treated.

Anytime a production is halted, for any reason, it costs the production company money. This is what the insurance is for. However, St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance is not interested in reimbursing Alta Vista Productions for the entire cost of those particular delays.

The insurance company feels that the production company made a “premature decision” about suspending filming. It says that Jason Statham’s doctors said that it was “highly likely” that he could have continued filming. The production company also filed a claim for loss valued at $306,146 due to Sylvester Stallone’s broken ankle. The insurance company has only paid for $139,439 of that claim so far.
