Believe it or not, there are some insurance podcasts out there that are interesting, and relevant to consumers. In order to find them, you have to sort through the ones that are intended to be listened to by people who work in the insurance industry, or who are in charge of businesses. Or, you could just scan over this list of insurance podcasts.
Music Technology Policy Podcast has an episode that was released on July 28, 2011. It has good information about the types of insurance that people who are in bands need. PBS NewsHour has an episode that was released on August 2, 2011. The episode is called “Utah’s Health Insurance Experiment Built Around Small Business”. Utah started a health insurance exchange a while ago. How it functions could give clues about how the health insurance exchanges will work in 2014.
PBS NewsHour also has a quick, five minute, video that was released on August 2, 2011. Technically, this isn’t a podcast, but it has some really useful information. Julie Appleby, from Kaiser Health News, explains how health insurance exchanges will affect consumers, and what consumers can expect to find through the exchanges.
NPR has an episode of “Tell Me More” that was released on August 2, 2011. It is called “Sebelius Defends Birth Control Without Co-Pays”. Kathleen Sebelius is interviewed, and gives her perspective on this issue.
Planned Parenthood has a really entertaining video that they created in response to the decision by The Department of Health and Human Services to include birth control as preventative care. Technically, this is not a podcast, but it is about insurance, and very fun to watch. The video shows dancers doing an Indian celebration dance, with a dancer who is dressed as a giant package of birth control pills.
Fletch & Vaughan Podcast has an episode that was released on July 27, 2011. One of the many topics they discuss in this episode includes insurance. Their producer got into a car accident when he was hit by a driver who did not have auto insurance coverage.
CNN has a podcast hosted by Sanjay Gupta MD. In the episode that was released on August 2, 2011, he speaks with “mini Darth Vader”. It seems that “mini Darth Vader” is someone who lobbies Congress to protect Medicaid.
