Insurance Podcast Roundup – Week of January 9, 2012

RSS It is time, once again, for the weekly Insurance Podcast Roundup. This is where to go if you are looking for podcast episodes that focus on insurance related topics. Often, it is easier to hear someone read the news to you than it is to sit down and read it yourself.

NPR has an episode of “Morning Edition” that was released on January 5, 2012. This episode is called “The Real Holiday Party For Weight-Loss Firms? It’s Now”.

This episode points out that weight loss firms such as Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, and more make a huge profit in the month of January. The episode also talks about how these firms are partnering with big employers, (who hope their employees will lose weight, and save the company money in health care costs). It also talks about how some firms are trying to partner with health insurance companies.

NPR has an episode of “Weekend Edition Saturday” that was released on January 7, 2012. This episode is called “The View From the Unemployed”.

This episode notes that the U.S. Labor Department reported that the unemployment rate is 8.5%, which is the lowest that it has been in three years. It points out that this is just an average. Reports say that fewer people are applying for Unemployment Insurance Benefits. You will hear the voices of real people, from around the country, who are unemployed.

PBS NewsHour has an episode that was released on January 6, 2012. This episode is called “Unemployment Dips to 8.5%, but How Is Overall U.S. Recovery Going?” In this episode, Jeffrey Brown discusses the meaning of the most recent jobs report with Meisiro Financial’s Diane Swonk and with Mark Vitner of Wells Fargo.

PBS NewsHour released an episode on January 5, 2012. This episode is called “Conversation: Nixon, Obama and Universal Health Care”. This episode features an interview with Stuart Altman, author of a new book called “Power, Politics, and Universal Health Care”.

The Covert Rationing Blog released a new episode on January 3, 2012. This episode is called “A Parsimonious Exegesis of the ACP’s New Ethics Manual”.

In this episode, Dr. Rich talks about the new recommendations from the American College of Physicians that encourage doctors to think about the cost of care. Dr Rich gives his viewpoint about how this suggestion is encouraging health care rationing to happen.

Insurance Information Institute has an informative video called “Protect Your Home Against Arson”. Los Angeles recently experienced a series of fires that were caused by arson. This video has some helpful advice for homeowners.
