Insurance Podcast Roundup – Week of June 18, 2012

NPR released an episode of “All Things Considered” on June 15, 2012. It is titled “California Runs With Health law Without Waiting on Supreme Court”. This episode talks about some of the ways that the state of California has been working on preparing to provide a way for all Californian’s to find health insurance coverage through a state exchange. The exchange will be created even if the Supreme Court decides to get rid of the entire Affordable Care Act.

NPR released an episode of “All Things Considered” on June 15, 2012 that is titled “Insurers Wait For Verdict On Health Care And Their Bottom Line”. This episode discusses some of the things that insurance companies are wondering about, in terms of the upcoming decision that the Supreme Court will make about the Affordable Care Act.

NPR released an episode of “Talk of the Nation” on June 15, 2012. This episode is called “How the Morning-After Pill Works”. Host Ira Flatow speaks with guest Dr. Gemzell-Danielsson, who is a professor and chair of the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Karolinska Institute in Sweden. Despite what some politicians have said, Plan B does not cause abortion. This is important to understand, especially since so many laws are being made that restrict or prohibit a woman’s health insurance plan from covering abortion. Plan B is a contraceptive – not an abortifacient.

CNN has an episode of Sanjay Gupta MD that was released on June 15, 2012. This episode is called “Why is RomneyCare different?” Dr. Gupta speaks with a Romney adviser who posits the argument that Romney’s Massachusetts health plan is very different from the federal Affordable Care Act, (or “Obamacare”).

CNN also released another episode of Sanjay Gupta MD on June 15, 2012. This episode is called “Fact check Romney Health claim”. In this episode, Dr. Gupta presses a Romney advisor about a possibly misleading claim about government spending in the Affordable Care Act.

CNN also has another episode of Sanjay Gupta MD that was released on June 15, 2012. This one is called “Romney pledge to protect patients”. In this episode, Dr. Sanjay Gupta challenges a Romney advisor about the protections that Romney would offer to people who are sick. This specifically has to do with Romney’s statement that he thinks insurers shouldn’t have to cover people who have pre-existing conditions.
