Insurance Podcast Roundup – Week of June 25, 2012

iPod and laptop It is time, once again, for the weekly Insurance Podcast Roundup. This is where to find brand new episodes of podcasts that discuss issues related to insurance. It is a good way to keep informed about the changes to insurance that could affect the policies that protect your family.

NPR released an episode of “Weekend Edition Sunday” on June 24, 2012. This episode is called “Countdown To The Supreme Court’s Ruling On Health Care”. This episode points out that the Supreme Court is very likely to issue its decision about the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act soon. It discusses potential unfortunate scenarios that could result if some of the ACA regulations disappear.

NPR released an episode of “Morning Edition” on June 22, 2012. This episode is called “If Health Law Falls, Coverage For Young Adults Gets Tricky”. The most popular part of the Affordable Care Act is the one that allowed young adults, (from age 18 to 26) to be covered under their parent’s employer sponsored health plans. If the ACA disappears, that coverage could turn into taxes for the parents, because the cost of the coverage would be considered “taxable income”.

NPR released an episode of “All Things Considered” on June 25, 2012. This episode is called “Could Kaiser Permanente’s Low-Cost Health Care Be Even Cheaper?” The episode talks about “shadow pricing”, and how that could make things more expensive than they need to be.

PBS NewsHour released an episode on June 19, 2012. This episode is called “Pension Shortfalls Force States to Consider Cutting Benefits”. This episode talks about what is happening in states like Illinois, and Rhode Island, where the state budget isn’t big enough to cover the retirement health insurance and retirement pensions of government workers.

Pet Insurance Podcast released episode number 7 on June 20, 2012. In this episode, host Dr. Doug Kenney talks with Merrick, who is a reader of his blog. Merrick shares his experiences with changing pet insurance companies when his dog was ten years old. He has advice for other pet owners who are dealing with pet insurance issues.

The Clark Howard Radio Show released an episode on June 22, 2012. In Hour 1 of the show, he talks about pay as you drive auto insurance, and that it is becoming more popular.

Policast released an episode on June 25, 2012. One of the topics discussed in this episode is about the Minnesota delegation, and that it is waiting for the Supreme Court’s health care decision regarding the Affordable Care Act.
