I am going to begin a short series on who Jesus is. One of the most disheartening things I hear is when other people who are said to be Christians have a misconception of who Jesus Christ is. I didn’t live 2000 years ago so the only source for me in knowing who Jesus is, is to see what the Bible has to say; to see who Jesus Himself claimed to be. Here is a compilation of scripture references and comments that I hope will be helpful to those of you who still aren’t sure, or those who need that reminder of who Jesus really is.
“…And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
We know from reading in Deuteronomy 6:4 that God is one! Why is it then Jesus is called God? Some people believe that God is three separate Gods in one Godhead family. I personally have studied this so much and find no evidence that God is more than one with several facets (so to speak). John 4:24 tells us that God is Spirit and those who worship Him should do so in spirit and in truth.
A pastor friend of ours gave us an illustration that I found helpful when trying to understand who Christ is. We were sitting down to eat and he had a pitcher of water. He said to imagine this pitcher of water was God’s Spirit. Then he took a glass and told us to imagine the glass was the flesh of Christ. He then poured the water into the glass to show that inside the flesh of Christ was the Spirit of God. Indeed He is God and Man.
The next blog is going to get into the book of John and explore more on who Christ is. I pray that as you read and follow in scripture that you will know Jesus is not dead, He was not just a man but is and was and always will be. He is your friend, your Lord and is worthy of our praise! Amen.
