It has been a long time since I have written and Familes.com has gained quite a few new members in the time I was away. Because of that, I wanted to introduce myself again so that you know who I am and where I am coming from when it comes to the world of adoption.
My name is Rachel and adoption has been on my heart since I was a teenager. I didn’t really get to do something about it, though, until the fall of 2005 when my desire to adopt became too strong to ignore. My husband and I began to pursue an adoption from Guatemala at that point. It was a long journey with many ups and downs, heartbreaks and joys. However, the ending was finally a happy one when we brought home our 14- month-old son, Josiah, from Guatemala in January 2007.
In the middle of our Guatemala adoption journey we also began an adoption from Liberia. God placed a seven-year-old girl on our hearts and we submitted our dossier to her country in July 2006. We are still waiting for Laney to come home, but we hope that the wait won’t be much longer.
As far as the future is concerned, we expect to add more children to our family as God leads and we hope that He will bless us with a houseful. In the meantime, I have begun writing on adoption and also try to help and encourage other families as they consider adoption or get started in their adoption journeys.
I love talking about adoption and I have worked hard to educate myself and to collect adoption resources. If I can help you in any way in your adoption journey, please let me know. I also love to hear about the adoption journeys of others and to share the ups and downs along the way, so please feel free to write. You can email me at RachelW@families.com
My goal is to produce blogs that will meet the needs of Families.com readers. I hope you’ll let me know if I am doing that by sending me messages or commenting on my blogs. If there is a topic you would like me to cover, let me know that too.
Thank you for the chance to share my story and I look forward to hearing yours!
