Introducing Solids Part V

It became clear that my daughter has a palate for flavor and spice after she giddily ate the well seasoned creamy beef broth of the mushroom soup. I am not really surprise after all I season her egg yolk every morning! I am also pleased that she is so excited and happy to try new and very different foods (even though I never anticipated that she would try so many so soon). Since I do not always have something savory for her to taste, I wanted her to have another go to food like the egg yolks she has for breakfast. That is when I introduced a good plain organic yogurt to her list of foods. After the initial surprise of the cold and tart yogurt, she was a huge fan. Just the texture of yogurt alone is extremely palatable. Occasionally, I would mix the yogurt with a bit of mashed banana for a little texture and added sweetness. On the rare occasion that we do not have eggs for breakfast, my daughter has yogurt and is quite pleased.

My favorite thing to have babies try is sweet potatoes. The difficulty is that I rarely prepare them by themselves. In order to remedy the lack of sweet potatoes cooked in my house, I got back into the habit of making a roast in the oven with lots of carrots, sweet potatoes, and new potatoes. Having been cooked with a savory cut of meat, the sweet potatoes are even better than they are when cooked alone. My daughter could not have agreed more because she devoured her serving of sweet potato in a matter of minutes.Sweet potatoes are now her new favorite orange food (sorry carrots)!

It seems to me that we have gotten to the point that my daughter tries a little taste of almost everything that I make. Her sense of curiosity for food continues and she is barely eight months old! However, she still does not like avocado!
