I blogged recently about pet adoption. I truly believe that adopting a pet from a shelter is the best way to take home an animal companion. There are so many animals to choose form right now too. With the economy hurting, many families and individuals are finding that they can no longer afford to keep their pets. It’s sad, but true. Shelters are overwhelmed with animals.
One of the local news networks here ran a story about an area shelter that suspended its adoption fees to help families adopt pets. I called the shelter to find out how well it worked. It worked very well. The day I called the shelter had no dogs, but no shortage of cats.
What is it about cats? I really don’t know. I think people are more inclined to adopt an adult dog; they overlook cats and prefer kittens instead. It doesn’t help the cats’ plight that it’s kitten season and shelters are overrun with cute and adorable kittens.
I discovered an iPhone app to help those looking to adopt a pet find the one that’s right for them. Petango.com has launched its app for iPhone. Petango allows the user to find adoptable pets nearby. You can narrow your search by location, breed, age, and sex. The app helps you find shelters in your area. The app even has a lost pet finder. Once you narrow down the pet, you’ll find pictures and a description along with details about the animal and the facility that is housing him. Finding a pet is only more fun in person.
My only disappointment with the app is that there’s no help for those of us who desperately need to find homes for our beloved pets. I wish there were more help for us too. Anyone want to adopt three adorable adult cats?
