Are you living in a home that you feel is completely finished? Are all of the repairs, painting, decorating and landscaping are done? If you are, well then I want to meet you and shake your hand. I’ve never gotten to the point where I have felt that a home I’ve lived in was ever finished.
Part of my problem, I realize, is that I keep finding myself living in a house known as a “fixer upper.” These homes have a long way to go before they are finished. Out last home came close. I would say that it was about three-quarters of the way to where we could consider it done the way we wanted it. The new stove had just been installed into the kitchen when my husband said, “Let’s go look at houses.” You guessed it, we sold that one and bought another one that was in even worse shape.
No, my husband isn’t a fixer upper junky of any kind. It is just that we needed a larger home in a good school district with low taxes that we could afford.
We’re working thought it all, room by room, but I wonder if by the time we are done if we will have to redo the rooms or areas that we started in. We could be in a different place in life by then. Our tastes may have evolved and perhaps even our income. We may never get this house finished.
But perhaps that is the way it is for most everyone. There may be a new pillow needed, or an addition built. Perhaps a house can be finished for a year before someone decides that the paint is looking a little old or that the garage needs to be organized with new shelving.
So I’m trying not to stress about it too much. After all, perhaps our house is never meant to be completely finished.
