Oh no, say it isn’t so. Could “High School Musical 3” be in jeopardy?
Fans of the popular Disney produced flick: brace yourselves—you may be in for a bumpy ride waiting for word on the future of Gabriella, Troy and the rest of the clan.
Following the phenomenal success of Disney Channel’s “High School Musical 2”on the small screen, it makes total sense that Disney execs want to ride the wave of popularity to the big screen.
The only problem: SUCCESS = $$$. And any self-respecting agent is not going to let their two-legged paycheck sign on to do a sequel if the price is not right. According to some reports, “High School Musical 3” may be facing some personnel issues in the form on stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens who are reportedly holding out on the big screen version for more money.
However, the reports may be over done. According to TV’s “Access Hollywood,” who spoke to Efron last week at the “High School Musical 2” premiere, he made no secret that he was very interested in doing a third movie.
“A third movie would be a dream come true. Finishing ‘High School Musical’ with a third movie, that would be in theaters, is just sort of a tribute to everything we kind of did here,” Efron said.
As for Hudgens, she too publicly admitted to “Access Hollywood” that while she had not seen a script yet, she wouldn’t hesitate to sign up for another round. “We all have so much fun together.” Hudgens said. “So, why wouldn’t we do another one?”
Officially neither actor has committed to the third Disney flick. However, reps for both stars say they are in talks to do “High School Musical 3.”
As for Disney, studio big wigs recently released this statement about the new movie:
“There is no contractual obligation for any of the cast members to return. That said, we are in active negotiations with all of the principle cast members and are feeling optimistic.”
One person affiliated with the film who confirmed he is definitely on board to be a part of the new movie is director Kenny Ortega.
Finally, there’s one more rumor has been squashed by Disney execs. Earlier this year Disney announced plans for a 2008 feature film sequel with a Halloween theme unofficially called “Haunted High School Musical.” Now Disney says they have scrapped plans for the Halloween theme and instead will focus on the senior year of key characters at East High.
