Is It Time For a New Digital Camera?

The holidays are right around the corner and if you are in the market for a new digital camera Canon hopes you pick one of their latest models. Just in time for Christmas the popular camera company unveiled two new PowerShot A-Series digital cameras—the 12.1-megapixel PowerShot A650 IS digital camera and the 8.0-megapixel PowerShot A720 IS digital camera.

I’ve blogged about Canon cameras in previous blogs and true to character these new additions maintain many of the outstanding features found on other successful models. What’s more, both are affordable and user friendly.

PowerShot A650 IS Digital Camera. This camera is designed for photographers who shoot more than just the occasional birthday or dance recital. It offers 12.1-megapixel resolution and a 6x optical zoom with optical image stabilization that ensures steady shooting every time. I drooled over the camera’s 21 shooting modes including Kids & Pets, Manual, Aperture-Priority and Shutter-Priority, which allow you to make the camera adapt to your specific needs. You’ll also appreciate the large 2.5-inch Vari-Angle LCD.

PowerShot A720 IS Digital Camera. This camera is designed for the busy mom-and-dad types who use their cameras primarily to capture family milestones, but don’t want to read through a 25-page manual to do so. The camera features an upgraded 8.0-megapixel resolution and Canon’s signature Optical Image Stabilization technology. The latter ensures that your images are sharp and clear even if you suffer from shaky hand syndrome. The PowerShot A720 IS camera is also capable of recording high-quality VGA movies, which comes in handy when you’re shooting your son’s football game or your daughter’s piano recital and you want to document the events on video and in still shots. The new camera also has a wide array of shooting modes (though not as many as the PowerShot A650) and features a simple control layout that makes shooting a snap.

Another plus (at least in my book): both cameras are powered by AA batteries, so you don’t have to worry about memorizing different types of lithium batteries.
