My husband called me from the road the other day when he was out of town with work. He calls several times a day to keep in touch when he’s gone, but this was just a quick call to tell me that the house he was driving past was the second he had seen that day where the people had already decorated for Christmas.
He noted that these were not just people trying to get a little jump on things or even people who fit the lyrics of Redneck Woman, where it talks about keeping Christmas lights up all year long. These were homes where people had obviously put some effort into decorating for Christmas… in October.
What is up with that? I mean, sure, people can do whatever they want, but I just don’t get the urge to get all decorated for Christmas before Halloween is even over. Is it just me?
Frankly, I have been known to complain about the stores that start playing Christmas music as soon as the back to school sales are over, but what other people do at their own homes is obviously not my concern. Still, I can’t help being curious. There’s really nothing wrong with it; heck, people can decorate in July if they want to. I’m just wondering why Christmas seems to start earlier every year.
What do you think about it? Do you like to start early? Do you trick or treat to Christmas carols or enjoy Thanksgiving dinner with the tree lit and stockings already hung with care?
Maybe people just get excited and can’t wait for Christmas, and maybe I just have issues. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I can barely get ready for Christmas by the time December gets here, much less in October or November!
