The first advice I was given when I decided to work from home was this:
“”Who cares how long it takes you to complete something if you are at home. If you are making money it will be worth it.””
Oddly, my desire to work at home made that statement actually make sense. If a ten dollar job took me four hours and I could get laundry done and make dinner in the meantime then it would be worth the $10. After all, I was at home and it was $10 more then I had before. Right? Wrong!
Time is money. If you work at home time is still money. Time does not stand still and making $5.00 an hour at home is the same as making $5.00 an hour not at home. Yes, there is the difference of not paying out taxes on the spot and not having to be in an office or buy clothing or lunches. But in the end that $5.00 will not magically go further because you made it working from home.
Home or not your time is valuable. Do not take any job just to earn a dollar. Rarely do small jobs add up to doing one big job later on. There are times you will have to take a job that may not pay the best just for experience. However, that is worth your time since it will have future impact. Taking a job, such as a paid post for a freelance writer, is not going to advance your career so unless it is at least $20 it is not worth your time. You need to be discerning. Take jobs that pay decent and will bolster your career. Do not make desperate acts your business. Your goals need to be considered to make a little money here and a little money there develop into streams of income. That is the goal; to turn your work into a stream of income not an on again off again task.
