That’s it—you’ve had it. You’ve attempted every eating plan under the sun, but try as you might; you’ve failed every time. You’re desperate. You want to lose weight and you want to lose it NOW. But what can you do?
If you’re like many Americans, this struggle often leads to prepackaged food plans. I’m talking about plans like Nutri System and Jenny Craig—plans that help you to lose weight while eating their prepackaged food.
Is prepackaged food right for you?
It depends. Take a look at your current lifestyle. What is keeping you from losing the weight you want to lose? Is it willpower? Are you finding yourself diving into the fridge or cabinets simply because it’s easier than preparing a healthy meal? If so, maybe a prepackaged plan is for you.
Keep in mind though; these plans require the same amount of commitment as any diet plan. Most often, you’re still responsible for shopping for and preparing additional vegetables and snacks. And lest you think you can just skip them, be aware that doing so can actually hinder your weight loss. These plans are set up specifically based on a set calorie and fat range.
When considering a prepackaged food plan, take a look at the meals they offer. Do you have flexibility to choose meals based on your own likes and dislikes? Jenny Craig offers a wide variety of meal choices to suit varying tastes and to allow for variety.
Also, remember that once you eat your prepackaged meal, that’s it. The portion sizes will be much smaller than you’re likely used to, and getting used to that can be challenging. You have to resist the urge to dive into a second helping though, or you’ll gain weight rather than lose weight.
There is no lasting quick-fix for weight loss. If you’re considering a prepackaged meal plan, do your research. Different companies offer different plans, menu options, and pricing. Prepackaged meal plans can be a viable option for someone looking to lose weight. But like all weight loss plans, your success is determined by how well you follow the plan, and your commitment to stick with it.
Good luck!
