Is Productivity a Goal?

We all start home businesses for different reasons. Some of us want to have something to do while we are home raising children, others of us want to branch out into a field we are passionate about on the side while we continue to work a day job. Still others of us start a home business with definite financial and career goals to guide us. Regardless of your motivation for starting a home business, we each have to decide whether or not we will focus on productivity and make increasing our productiveness a goal…

For me, productivity is a major guide point in my work and business. I have as a goal to make the most of my time and be both efficient and productive and try to make the most money I can manage on a daily basis. Now, I know that sounds a bit greedy but I am not a millionaire here and I am not willing to do anything and everything to make that money. In fact, I have other parameters as well—I have set work hours so I am available to be with my kids and friends in the evenings, I try to minimize the amount of time I spend on work, I don’t talk about my work or bother others with the details, etc. Throw all of these goals and priorities into the mix and it may seem like I am working against myself, but I find as long as I focus what work time I DO have on being productive, things tend to turn out pretty well.

When productivity is a goal, you can arrange your work space, your day, and even schedule your week or month with that in mind. Too much clutter or interruptions can wreak havoc on productivity. Instead of having pages and pages of goals and priorities for your business, focusing in being as productive as possible may be enough to keep you focused and motivated.
