Are you for real? One of the stars of an apparently “hit” reality show “Jersey Shore” is set to make a whole lot of money thanks to a fitness DVD. This brings up a stirring question, is reality fitness a joke?
I have never personally watched “Jersey Shore.” In fact, the only reason I know anything about it is because I am a fan of “The View” and on one of their segments they had some of the stars of “Jersey Shore.”
Now forgive me if you are a fan of this show but I really thought these people were out of their minds. I find it so hard to believe that anyone can take them seriously. Now Mike Sorrentino, one of the show’s stars, is set to make $5 million. This money isn’t just from the reality show; it is also because of his fitness DVD “The Situation.”
Is this a joke or what? Apparently Sorrentino has received endorsements from several sources such as Reebok and Vitamin Water. The money supply isn’t going to end anytime soon, as he has also developed a chewable supplement that GNC is distributing.
I guess in the eyes of some ladies he is eye candy and to some men, he is what they want to be. But despite his apparently perfect abs, it is really hard to take a reality show star seriously.
Is it really about promoting fitness or more about promoting what he has? He has obviously used his looks to further his career. He is banking on them, literally.
The problem with someone like Sorrentino is that we can get the wrong idea about fitness. In a society that sends us the message you have to look a certain way in order to be successful, it can take away from the whole point of fitness. It’s not just about showing off your abs. It’s about living a lifestyle that keeps you healthy.
I’m sorry but I tend to think reality fitness is a joke. I think I will save my $27 and stick to something a bit more realistic.
