Warning: You may not want to let young children read this!
How does your family know when Santa’s been to visit? Are the cookies and milk all gone when you’re kids get up? Does Santa bring all the presents, or does he just fill the stockings and add a few items along with the other gifts already under the tree?
Are there more gifts from Santa or from Mom and Dad? Maybe there is just one special gift from him. Perhaps he brings a few but his gifts are separate from the others. Does he use different wrapping paper and sign the nametags in carefully written lettering? There have been occasions at our house where Santa had the same paper we did! His handwriting also looked a lot like mine or Daddy’s, and one time, he even forgot to eat the cookies. It was a good thing I woke up the earliest that time, and I just smiled when the kids came running out to say Merry Christmas (hoping they wouldn’t notice my mouth was full).
When Santa comes to our house these days, he leaves separate little piles of gifts for each child on or around the coffee table. He uses the same paper for all the gifts, but its different than the wrapping paper we have, so that we can tell the difference. He writes the names on the packages instead of using nametags. He doesn’t sign his name, since we know who they are from. The main gifts, the ones that took hours to pick out and shop for are under the tree (call me an old meanie, but the little fat guy isn’t getting credit for my effort, and I seem to have trouble keeping my mouth shut too).
So, how does Santa do things at your house? Have you ever made a mistake and claimed credit for something Santa brought? One time, I was so excited to see my daughter’s face as she opened a present that I said, “I knew you would love it!” She asked me when I had talked to Santa and why she hadn’t been there.
Santa’s a pretty cool guy, but he has also managed to make things a little complicated at times, so I’m glad he and I have finally worked out a system, so I can keep things straight.
