I was talking with another home business owner/operator recently and she declared that her business was finally her “dream job”—I felt a pang of envy. While I truly love SOME of the stuff that I do for work, I haven’t been able to focus entirely on the parts I love and let go of the parts I don’t…I need a little more time before my work from home business is truly my dream job.
But, I do think that entrepreneurs and work at home business owners are often much more inclined, and much closer to actually working their dream jobs than those who work at traditional jobs. I have not seen any studies or reports on this, it is just a theory I have from people I talk to. After all, why would we put so much love, sweat, and energy into something we are choosing to do if it is not at least some of the things we want in our work? Most of us aren’t masochists!
In my dream job—I wouldn’t have to work with any outside clients or do non-writing work. AND, I wouldn’t have to work so many hours just to keep the cupboards filled and the lights on! But, I imagine that is due more to my single parent status and the need to support an entire family on revenue I bring in than it is to work-related stuff.
I would love to hear from other home business owners here about whether you have been able to create your dream job in your home business, or whether it is still a work in progress? Is your home business everything you want it to be? What would it take to get you to a place where you felt like you were working your dream job?
