Is TV Bounty Hunter Headed To The “Dog” House?

TV’s “Dog the Bounty Hunter” is making headlines again. The reality television star known for upholding the law is now being accused of breaking it. According to a Honolulu (the city “Dog” resides and films his show) newspaper, a woman has filed a lawsuit against Duane “Dog” Chapman, alleging the TV bounty hunter and his crew threw her down a flight of stairs and broke her back while apprehending her boyfriend.

The paper says the contents of the lawsuit do not list specific damages, though it does accuse Chapman and his fellow bounty hunters of injuring the woman at her Pearl City apartment last week. According to the court documents, on January 26, 2005 in the course of arresting the woman’s boyfriend and filming an upcoming episode of “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” Chapman “threw her down the stairs.”

“They’re filming this TV segment and she is upset because you have these thugs breaking into her apartment and she doesn’t want them in there, so they decide the convenient thing is to throw her down the stairs,” the woman’s attorney told news reporters.

Chapman and his wife, Beth, responded to the allegations by releasing a statement, which says their family, has become a “target of frivolous lawsuits and publicity seeking attorneys.”

“We pride ourselves in making sure that everything we do is within the bounds of the law and we are confident that we did so in this case,” Chapman said in the statement. “The videotape in the television show itself demonstrates that the charges against us are baseless.”

In addition to this latest lawsuit, Chapman is also waiting for a ruling by a Mexican judge about his pending extradition in a criminal case there. “Dog” is currently free on $300,000 bond, but has been charged under Mexican law with “deprivation of liberty” for his June 2003 capture of fugitive convicted rapist Andrew Luster, the Max Factor heir, in Puerto Vallarta.
