Have you stopped and prioritized your life lately? What things do you consider most important? And in contrast what things do you spend the most time on? It is essential that we ask ourselves these questions on a regular basis. My children are one of my biggest priorities. It is essential that we spend time teaching and strengthening our family.
As I look at my children I have to ask myself how I am doing on raising them with the most important values. Do I teach them to be kind to others in the way that I treat them? Do I teach them the value of hard work as I work beside them? Do I teach them the importance of the gospel, by making the gospel a central part of my life and my family’s life?
Of course there are always areas that I can improve on, but it is important to make sure that my family is headed in the right direction. It really comes a little bit at a time, and it is also important to realize that we cannot change all of our habits or our family’s habits at the same time. We should start to make changes one or two at a time with the things that are the most important to you.
It is also important to always have the end goal in mind. We should know what we are working for and what we need to do in order to achieve that goal. I want each of my children to grow up with the value of hard work, and in order for that to happen they need to learn to work and to enjoy the sense of accomplishment that it gives them. Similarly I want my children to grow up with a testimony of the gospel and of the Savior. In order for that to happen they need to be taught the gospel at a young age and allowed to have the testimony building opportunities that will come with growing up.
