Is Your Home Guest Ready?

So let me ask you something…is your home guest ready?

Now please hear what I am asking. I am not asking if your house is perfect. I am not asking if your floors are so clean you could eat off of them. I am asking if your home is ready that at any time someone might stop by, you wouldn’t turn the lights off and hide. But instead, you would welcome them inside.

But don’t answer yet. You just might change your answer by the time you get to the end of this blog.

When it comes to a home being “guest ready,” we have to first come to the realization that what this means for one person will not be the same for another. And guess what? That is okay. Let me give you permission to have your own version of what a guest ready home looks like.

You do this by not comparing your home to someone else’s. You might be the lady with five children under the age of 10 and here you are comparing your home to the woman whose children are all grown and out of the house. Don’t do it.

In fact, I think we should all relax our views of what a guest ready home is. Because when you can do this, then I guarantee you that 99% of the time your home truly will be ready for that unexpected visitor.

Let me also share a secret with you—well, maybe you already know this. Guests really aren’t looking to walk into a home that is so neat, clean and pristine that they don’t even feel comfortable staying.

So get rid of the notion that everything has to look perfect. It should look inviting…not trashy but certainly not like a museum.

And I have another secret. Most people who stop by, they would rather see you being “real” than anything else. So don’t even apologize for the “mess” in the room. Shrug your shoulders and say, “Welcome to my life.”

I am pretty sure that whoever stopped by isn’t there to inspect your home. Their reason for being there likely has to do with building a relationship, not grading your housework.

So now let me ask you again…is your home guest ready?
