Is Your Marriage Sacred?

Sometimes the way that you, or your spouse views marriage can tell you a lot about whether or not it is going to last. Here is a question that you should be asking yourself and your spouse right now.

Marriage certainly takes a beating in our society. There are endless jokes about nagging wives, clueless husbands and nasty mother-in-laws. Sneaking behind your spouse’s back is played for laughs, and there are now several dating sites available for those who want to have discrete affairs without their spouses finding out.

Sigh.

How can we really value marriage today when we are given so few examples of the sacredness of marriage?

Being of a Christian faith and in a happy marriage helps me with this, I think. I really believe that my husband and I have a spiritual connection and that our marriage is a sacred thing. I felt this connection when we were first together, and I continue to feel it during the course of our days. It is something holy.

Viewing a marriage as sacred really makes you look at things differently. For one thing, you are less likely to treat it disrespectfully and more likely to honor it. For another thing, it is easier to put it first in your life.

We often think of other things as sacred, whether we want to admit it or not. Money, is a big one, for example. Do you treat your spouse and your marriage with as much attention as you might pay to your financial portfolio?

My husband is the closest and most valuable person to me. I know this isn’t politically correct, that I should say it is my children. But the reality is that I would go to any length for my children, and they know this. They also know that our marriage is sacred, and that in itself gives my children a sense of stability and comfort.

In what ways can you realize a sacred marriage?
