I am ALL for getting away from work and taking a well-earned vacation. With a home business, however, that may not be the easiest thing to do. Ask any small business owner and he or she will probably confess that taking time off is nearly impossible to arrange. Instead of abandoning the idea of a vacation altogether because you cannot “get away from it all”—why not consider taking more of a “working vacation.” You can still spend time with family and/or friends and get away; you just may have to work a little bit too.
There are times in life when we need to be able to devote every moment of time to something—whether it is family or ourselves or work or whatever. There are other times when it is perfectly reasonable to do a little multi-tasking. Sometimes a little of something or a lot of something is better than none of it at all. Vacations fall into that category, I think!
So as you look ahead to the next several weeks of summer break and cannot figure out how you can completely leave your work behind to take a family vacation—is there a way that you can take some work with you and still get away with the family? Many of us have very portable home businesses and while we may have to take the laptop and the cell phone with us, we can still get away to some wonderful place and relax with the family and have some fun too. As long as family members understand that we will have to do a little work, and we are capable of creating balance and not over-doing it—it might be the perfect solution to having a life and building a business at the same time.
