It Takes Real Work

I certainly do not mean to insult anyone and I am quite sure that all of you home business owners out there did NOT get into your work and businesses because you thought it would be easy. Well, let’s assume that we had some idea of how much work it was going to be to operate a business. I think there is a chance that a few of us thought it would be easier than it turned out to be. After all, one of the first things we realize when we start a business is that it takes real work…and a lot of it!

I know a handful of people who, when they heard what I do for a living, they assumed it was very glamorous and exciting—as a matter of fact, when they hear that I work from home, they assume that it is just like being retired and I get to sleep late, bop off to lunch any time I feel like it and spend my days playing and “dabbling” at work. That couldn’t be farther from the truth as most of you know—instead most of us work long hours, days and days without a day off, and all this for minimal pay, at least in the beginning. It takes real, constant work to build a business!

Jobs always look glamorous from the other side of the fence, or when they are someone else’s. Perhaps when some of us were researching and choosing what became our home businesses, we had something in common with those people I mentioned earlier. Did you think your business was going to be easier than it has turned out to be? Were you surprised to find out how much real work it takes to get your business up and running and the hard work it takes to keep it afloat?
