Do you ever have one of those days where you think to yourself “THIS is why I work from home”? I hope that at least occasionally you have a day like that, a day where you are filled with a sense of all of the wonderful things that can happen when you work from home. Lucky me, I had one of them today. I am taking the time to write about it so that when I am having one of those other days; you know the ones that leave you feeling negatively about the whole working from home thing, I can snap myself out of it.
On this ideal work from home day, I was able to get up when my son woke up – no trying to sneak out of bed without him noticing. We enjoyed playtime and breakfast before I did a few household chores while he played independently. At noon, we met a friend for lunch and then did a few errands in town.
In the afternoon, I took advantage of the perfect weather and went for a walk with my son for about an hour and a half. This was the highlight of my day, as the weather was perfect and I live in a beautiful place, Central Vermont, where the views are beautiful no matter which direction you look. The route that I took today went up the hill and across the top of the hill, to a historic meetinghouse with a nice lawn where we sat down to take a break in the shade of the maple trees.
When we returned from our walk, my son took a nap I did some work. Later that evening after he went to bed I was able to enjoy a nice dinner with my husband. After that, I picked up my work where I had left off earlier. I even got finished with the work that I wanted to get done at a reasonable hour, which is much more than I can say for some nights.
Looking back on my day, I am filled with joy because the choice that I made to work from home is bringing me the lifestyle that I had hoped that it would. What I passed up economically when deciding not to work at a job outside of the home is outweighed by what I have gained in overall quality of life. It is my sincere hope that every person that works from home has days like this often enough to keep your spirit soaring.
