It’s A Boy. It’s A Girl. It’s A Baseball Team.

IT’S A BOY

“Today” show co-host Matt Lauer and wife Annette welcomed their third child, a son to the family just after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday… and less than 24 hours later Lauer was back at work—-chatting it up on the set of the popular NBC morning show (wow, and I complained when my husband went back to work three days after the birth of our daughter).

But, that’s not the only thing about the birth that’s making headlines. Lauer’s new bundle of joy has a very unique name: Thijs (Pronounced “Tice”). On air today Lauer explained the baby’s name is in honor of his wife’s Dutch heritage.

Thijs joins big brother Jack, 5, and sister Romy, 3.

IT’S A GIRL

It turns out Romy won’t only be a popular name in the Lauer household… according to news reports, Oscar winner Sofia Coppola just gave birth to her first child, a baby girl she named Romy.

PEOPLE magazine is reporting that the baby was born on Tuesday in Paris. The father is Coppola’s boyfriend, Thomas Mars, the French singer of the band Phoenix. In October Coppola told USA Today that she was thrilled to being having a girl “to go on a good shopping spree or two. All those little dresses… it’s so fun to have little girl stuff.”

Mommy Sofia isn’t the only one delighted about the new arrival. Grandpa Francis Ford Coppola (the director of “The Godfather”) is also reportedly “ecstatic” as well. As is Sofia’s cousin, actor Nicolas Cage.

IT’S A BASEBALL TEAM

He may not have a wife… and he didn’t actually go in to labor (or debt) delivering it, but Nick Lachey still considers it his “new baby.”

The singer has just announced that he is now the new part owner of a baseball team – the Tacoma Rainiers franchise, the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

“It had always been a dream of mine to be involved in team sports in general, especially on a local level in your hometown,” Lachey told PEOPLE magazine.

The former husband of pop princess Jessica Simpson is a self-described “huge baseball fan (who) grew up in Cincinnati, and baseball is kind of a religion there.”

Lachey also told the magazine, “Sports is – outside of entertainment – my passion. … Clearly I’m not going to be playing for anybody in my lifetime, so to be involved on the ownership level is the next best thing.”

While he may not be “the world’s greatest player,” Lachey did reveal that he would be suiting up to practice with the team when time permits.
