It’s a Date – Touring the Lights Fantastic

For my husband and myself, one of our favorite things to do every holiday season is to pick an evening when it’s cool or cold outside (in Texas, sometimes you just have to settle for cool) and we pack ourselves into the car with cups of hot cocoa and go for a long drive. We accent the ambience by cranking up the Christmas tunes.

It’s Not Quite Caroling

While we are not out singing to our neighbors, we are singing to each other or singing along with each other as we cruise the neighborhood and many others, looking at all the Christmas decorations and lights that make for a festive streets and more. It’s a genuine pleasure that we both adore.

We often reminisce as we drive, commenting not only on the decorations themselves but also on the Christmases we have shared and those that came before that in the past. Some of our stories are the same every year and it’s a lot like watching a familiar and favored Christmas show every year – it doesn’t matter that we know how the story ends – it matters that we get to enjoy the intimacy of the time together.

A Date for the Whole Family

Once upon a time, we did this by ourselves, but last year – for the first time, we took our daughter with us and she reveled in the lights, the hot cocoa and the storytelling. This year, it was one of the first things she asked us about this year – when were we going to go out and perform our little Christmas holiday date with the lights – tonight’s the night.

So consider for yourselves a date night that takes you out for a pleasurable drive, with some hot cocoa, great Christmas music and the grand company that your spouse can offer – I think you’ll make it a tradition of your own.
