It’s All in the Attitude

Sometimes I think when it comes to fitness it’s all in the attitude. What is your attitude when you think about fitness? Many of the attitudes we have about things stem from our childhood.

For instance, if you grew up in a home where fitness was priority then your attitude about fitness might be different than someone who grew up in a home where they rarely exercised. Attitudes might be better caught than taught but they can also be adjusted.

Have you ever been told to adjust your attitude? Well how about adjusting your attitude about fitness?

Personally, my attitude toward fitness has never been very favorable. I have thought of it as something I don’t have time for and that it doesn’t really make a difference. Now of course deep down inside I know that I really do have the time for it. It is up to me to make the time. I also know that it’s not true that it doesn’t make a difference. However, my attitude has not lined up with the truth.

Attitude is typically not based on truth. It is based on feelings. I don’t feel like exercising so my attitude about it is not very good. I think you get the idea.

So sometimes what we have to do is learn how to adjust our attitudes. Anyone with a bad attitude can make a turnaround and the same is true when it comes to our thoughts about fitness.

This is where self-talk might come in handy. You tell yourself, out loud if necessary, that fitness is something you can do if you make the time. It is something good for you. It will make you stronger, a better athlete or whatever else will motivate you.

Sometimes we just have to decide that we are going to change our perspective and our thoughts. We are going to redirect them in a more positive way. When it comes down to it, it’s all in the attitude. What is your attitude about fitness?
