It has been all over the news today that the Duggars will be having baby #20. My first thought was trying to come up with another “J” name will be tough. I have to admit I do not watch the show, 19 and Counting, the reality show they have made such a success. Yet, I am familiar with the family and have a tremendous amount of respect for them. I love their simple way of life amongst the chaos of children, homeschooling, and dentist appointments. In the few interviews I have seen and snippets of episodes it was obvious to me that love surrounds them and their devotion to God is pure. I am not sure I know of another family blessed by so many children.
As the news of the Michelle Duggar’s pregnancy spread throughout the internet land to social networking sites everywhere it seemed everyone had an opinion. Some were joyful for the family and wished sincere congratulations. Others concerned themselves with Michelle Duggar’s health and her past risky pregnancy. Then there were some who were cruel and harshly criticized Michele and Jim Bob for having another baby. Many lashed out at homeschooling and Christianity. It seemed anyone mildly associated with homeschooling or set their affections on things above were also under attack today. On Facebook a commenter insulted homeschool moms and homeschooled children. Not even the children were safe today!
Let’s get a reality check. First, the Duggar’s obviously have the means to raise 20 children so they are not a drain on anyone resources. Second, whose business is it if they have 100 children? Third, why is it okay to support female reproductive rights when it comes to abortion and birth control but not when it comes to giving birth or being quiverfull? If the family is happy then we ought be happy for them or just not concern ourselves with the life God gave another person. There is no excuse for insults, cruelty, or anger over what should be joyful news.
