It’s Going to Take More Than an Alarm Clock

Today is the first day back to school after Spring Break for us. The weather was reasonably nice for the entirety of the break–a little chilly, but sunny and breezy and definitely in keeping with the whole “spring” theme. But, now it’s time to get the teenagers up and back into the swing of things to finish out another year of high school. Needless to say, no one is exactly “springing” out of bed this fine April morning…

The alarm clocks have been going off…the snooze buttons obviously slapped since I’m hearing the rounds of beeps and buzzing for the second and third times. It’s finally become apparent that I am going to have to make a stomping march upstairs to bang on doors, jostle shoulders and try to urge and cajole the sleeping beauties out of their cozy, if sloppily-made, beds.

The gentle cajoling comes first. If I have to make a second tromp up the stairs I take on the tough drill sergeant role and it becomes “Get up! School today!” which no one likes to hear. But, they are not hearing that they are actually in the home stretch either–there’s only about 12 weeks or so of school left now and then…twelve short weeks of projects and reports and increasingly sunny days that make it darn near impossible to concentrate on academics or anything serious. I have a feeling I might as well get stripes for my robe right now since I will likely be playing the drill sergeant for the remainder of the school year. If this morning is any prediction of the next few weeks yet to unfold, it’s definitely going to take more than alarm clocks to get my house full of teens up and out the door to school now that spring is here…
