It’s National Women’s Health Week

This week is National Women’s Health Week, which is intended to empower women to make their health a top priority. The truth is that many times women put themselves at the bottom of their list. So many other people and circumstances call to us that we are often left without any resources for ourselves.

The theme for this week is “It’s Your Time” and I want to make that same declaration to every woman who reads this. It is your time. It is your time to make whatever changes in your life are necessary in order to be the best you can be.

The truth is that we cannot give out what we do not have. If we are giving and giving but never receiving, we will quickly run out of steam. I am sure we can all relate to that and have been there.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services suggests taking these steps to a healthier you: Get at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every week; get at least 1 hour and 15 minutes of vigorous physical activity every week; or a combination of both.

You can take simple steps by Setting Weekly Goals to make it happen. If you have not been avidly exercising then you want to work your way into a fitness routine.

They also suggest women take these steps: Eat a nutritious diet; receive regular checkups and preventative screenings; avoid risky behaviors (smoking, not wearing a seat belt, etc.); pay attention to mental health, which includes getting adequate sleep and managing stress

Personally, I dislike the word diet and you can read about why here: Why I Dislike the Word Diet.

I suggest that every woman Do a Mental Health Check to recognize those areas that perhaps need a little work.

What are some things that you as a woman can do this week to empower yourself to a healthier lifestyle? Only you know what specific changes need to be made. Take some time today to sit down and write down those things that you know need to be done. Then make a plan, set goals to make it happen. You will be on your way to a healthier you.
