A number of celebrity couples are headed for splitsville, which in and of itself is not that newsworthy given that divorces are a dime a dozen in Tinseltown. However, when you are talking about a celeb who made sure her wedding was the talk of the town long before (and well after) she walked down the aisle you know tongues are going to wag.
Yes, it’s true; the romance is over for Star Jones and her husband Al Reynolds.
According to the former “View” co-host (who characteristically decided to release a statement to TV’s “Entertainment Tonight”), she filed divorce papers last month.
The 46-year-old former prosecutor didn’t give a reason for her decision to end her marriage but did say: “Several years ago I made an error in judgment by inviting the media into the most intimate area of my life. A month ago I filed for divorce. The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone’s life that requires privacy with one’s thoughts. I have committed myself to handling this situation with dignity and grace and look forward to emerging from this period as a stronger and wiser woman.”
Reading between the lines here I would say that blabbing endlessly about every detail of her wedding on “The View” and making the highly controversial move to add corporate sponsors to the ceremony was another of Jones’ “errors in judgment.” Though, one could surmise from her statement that marrying Reynolds, a banker who is seven years’ her junior, was also not one of her wisest moves.
Jones got the wedding of her dreams back in 2004 complete with A-list celebrity guests and a horse-drawn carriage, but apparently the marriage was a nightmare.
As early as 2006 Jones was battling rumors that her union with Reynolds was on the rocks. Later that year she infamously split from the show that made her famous and got into a war of words with the chatfest’s executive producer, Barbara Walters. And earlier this year she got the boot from TruTV (formerly Court TV) when the network cancelled her talk show.
Interestingly, while all of this turmoil was going on Jones’ critics were quick to point out that the “man of her dreams” was noticeably absent.
Now we know why.
The daytime diva should count her lucky stars she isn’t still on “The View” because I doubt she would enjoy chatting up her divorce the same way she did her nuptials.
