It’s the Final Countdown…to Thanksgiving

An old song is swimming in my head, “It’s the final countdown…” Yes, the final countdown until Thanksgiving.

Instead of spending the weekend planning and preparing, I enjoyed it…which wouldn’t have been so bad except that as soon as Monday hit, I realized how far behind I was. Of course, I didn’t find out until Friday that I would be hosting Thanksgiving anyway.

Every year we switch off with family, the other side does Thanksgiving and we do Christmas. But I guess this year we somehow ended up with both. That’s another story…

At any rate, I sit here at my computer with a full workload ahead of me, grocery shopping to do, a house to clean and a hundred other preparations to make. I have decided that I have two options: I can dive in and just get it done with a thankful heart or I can complain while I do it.

Either way, I’m not getting out of what needs to be done so I might as well try and enjoy it. Isn’t it amazing how entertaining in the home can sour a mood?

You are supposed to be preparing for this great family feast, time together and expressing thanks for all the good things of the past year. Yet all you can see is the work that is ahead.

This hasn’t been one of my better years, as far as planning. Even with the blogging series I did on creating a “Holiday Planner,” I have yet to actually break mine out. It was one of those easier to teach than do things.

But I’m not going to sweat it. I am going to do the best I can, enlist the help of family and come what may…it will be what it is. At the same time, I am already marking in my calendar that on October 1, 2012, I will start working on my holiday planning.

How are you feeling about your preparations for Thanksgiving? Are you ready or not? It’s the final countdown…
