It’s Time To Take A Stand

In my last blog I responded to a small part of a blog from The Washington Post by William Arkin and I promised to share my ideas about supporting our troops and taking a stand against these kindS of attacks on our troops.

Military members and their families have always been more or less encouraged to just let it all go; don’t engage in the discourse when it comes to remarks such as those made by William Arkin. I do my best to be a good military wife and I hope that when all is said and done that my husband can be as proud of the fact that I am his wife as I am proud to call him my husband. With that said, I would like to make it clear to those who don’t support our troops and those who find it appropriate to engage in bashing the character of our troops that this military wife is not going to take it anymore.

I am making it my personal mission to boycott any and all advertisers of The Washington Post and as I am able to compile a list, I am going to email, send letters, and make phone calls to each and every one of those advertisers and explain why I will not be doing business with them. At the moment, I am having difficulty getting my hands on a copy of The Washington Post. Anyone who may have a copy on hand please feel free to list any of the advertisers either in my comments section or on the Families.com forums.

We can talk about supporting the troops but words have little power if we don’t live by them. Military families are a very large portion of the economy and if we start becoming very particular about how we spend our money and with whom, we can make our voices heard in the one way that will cause advertisers to sit up and take notice.

I can live with someone disagreeing with policy, I can live with them speaking out about the things they find wrong but what I can’t live with is standing back and accepting that our troops are treated as second class citizens and watch as their service is treated as something despicable. These troops are my troops; they are my husbands, wives, sons and daughters, they serve me, they protect me and I owe them my support in any way possible. I will boycott any company or product that endorses the kind of venom that has been spewed by William Arkin and those like him; I consider that a payment of the debt to my troops. I hope you will all join me in repaying the men and women that put their lives on the line for all of us.
