Within The Tree of Life that stands as the centerpiece of Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park, there is a show that bridges both 3D film and interactive entertainment. It’s Tough to be a Bug remains one of Animal Kingdom’s crown achievements and is simply not to be missed.
Starring the characters of Disney/Pixar’s “A Bug’s Life,” this 8-minute 3D attraction explains exactly why it’s tough to be a bug. Incorporating music, 3D technology and even some interactive surprises, this attraction is a remarkable experience.
As guests are seated and prepare for the attraction to come, Flik, the adorable ant from “A Bug’s Life,” welcomes the “honorary bugs” (ehm, that would be you) and instructs them to put on the 3D glasses provided to them when they enter the auditorium. From there begins a hilarious, sometimes creepy, view into the world of insects.
Guests are introduced not only to the lovable (and sometimes not so lovable) characters from “A Bug’s Life,” but also a few creepy ones as well such as a Chilean Tarantula, hornets, and my personal favorite, the stink bug. The villain of Bug’s Life, Hopper, also makes a surprise appearance.
It’s Tough to be a Bug features the same incredible voice talent from the Disney/Pixar film such as Kevin Spacey, Dave Foley, and Cheech Marin.
Those guests that have a true aversion to bugs of any kind might find the attraction a bit intense as the experience is interactive and you “feel” bugs crawling across your back, “spiders” drop from the ceiling, and many insects seem to jump from the screen.
It’s Tough to be a Bug is a true delight, however and remains a favorite of many Disney guests. If you think you can handle it, be sure not to miss this incredible attraction.
