It’s Up to Parents to Act

null
Pick up any newspaper and you will see evidence of crime, violence, rape, murder, brutality, theft, drug and alcohol abuse, road rage, the list goes on. Given today’s world and the way society is headed, it has never been more important that parents take their parental responsibility seriously.

Too often parenting is being left to others rather than the child parents or is simply abdicated all together because it is easier to let children get away with misbehavior than to correct it. It may be in the short term. It is not in the long term and sadly our society is showing the effects of this lack of responsibility from parents.

One of the most important things we can do as Christian parent is to teach our children God’s Word. After all this is God’s handbook for living. If you wanted to know how an appliance works, the obvious place is to consult the maker’s manual.
It is no different with life. If we want to know how to make it work then we need to consult the Maker’s manual – the Bible.

The bible is full of everyday practical advice about how to live and love, how to relate your spouse, how to relate to our neighbors, how to behave in the workplace and how to bring up our children. Just look at some of these verses and you will soon see what I mean.

Genesis 2:24,

Proverbs 5:18,

Ecclesiastes 9:9,

Malachi 2:15-16

Exodus 20:16-17

Proverbs 3:29

Proverbs 27:10

Matthew 19:19

Ephesians 4:25

Titus 2:3-5

Proverbs 11:3

Deuteronomy 4:9

Deuteronomy 11:19

Proverbs 13:34

Proverbs 15:1

Proverbs 19:18

Proverbs 29:17

Ephesians 6:4

2 Timothy 1:5

2 Timothy 3:15-17

The ideal time to start teaching your child God’s Word is while they are young. Around the dinner table can be a good time to start a short time of Bible reading and prayer with the family. But why not also consider reading your child a bible story at night as well as any other book they enjoy. Or you might find the morning works best, as our family did at one stage. Just find the time that works best for you and try and make it a regular habit.
