Jerry Buzzes Around Israel and Brad Backs Out of Potential Big Screen Blockbuster

Jerry Seinfeld always knew he would return to the Holy Land… someday, though he says he could have never predicted it would be to promote a movie about an animated bee.

Funny how things just work out the way they do.

What’s more, the Jewish comic says there is no way he could have fathomed his visit would be front-page news.

Local newspapers devoted multiple pages to his trip and references to his humor bled into serious news stories.

“Yada, yada, yada,” said TV political analyst Amnon Abramovitz on Sunday after reading a story about the Mideast meeting called by President Bush.

Seinfeld fans know the quote as one of the best-known phrases from his popular TV show.

By all accounts the New York native was treated like a foreign dignitary. During his three day trip (part of a world tour he is on to promote “Bee Movie,” his first major project since ending his TV series) Seinfeld met both the Israeli prime minister and president. He was also given the rare opportunity to tour the official Israeli Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem.

During a press conference following his royal reception the comedian said it was quite a contrast to his last trip to Israel in 1971 as a 15-year-old volunteer on a kibbutz collective farm. Back then he spent days sweating in the sweltering sun cutting down banana leaves.

What a difference a few decades can make.

In other movie news Brad Pitt recently announced he will not be appearing in a film some critics had pegged to be a sure fire blockbuster.

Pitt was to star in the movie “State of Play” as a political consultant-turned-journalist who helps investigate the death of a congressman’s mistress. The Universal Pictures flick was set to begin filming this year and Pitt had already spent months researching the role.

But, according to the Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety, the day before Thanksgiving Pitt backed out of the film.

Pitt wouldn’t comment on what fueled his decision; however, studio execs issued a statement to the media saying they “remain committed to this project and to the filmmakers, cast members, crew and others who are also involved in making the movie.”

Hmmm… maybe Angie’s pregnant.
