Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo Split

Poor Jessica Simpson recently found herself not only without a beau, but dumped the day before her 29th birthday! There didn’t seem to be many hints to the end of her relationship with Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo. In fact, a reporter from PEOPLE magazine asked Romo just weeks ago what he planned to get Simpson for her birthday and was told “It’s a secret.”

Unfortunately, it was a well kept secret and not a good one. Romo reportedly broke up with Simpson on July 9th – the day before her birthday. Simpson ended up celebrating her big day quietly with family and friends. Romo went to MyHouse, a Los Angeles club, with friends.

The pair first met in November 2007 when the Simpson clan went to see Romo play football. According to Simpson, their first date was magical. She said Romo leaned over the table during their first date and said, “This is my girl and I want to kiss her” in front of everyone. Mere days later, the pair celebrated their first Thanksgiving together but things would get tense before the end of the year. When Simpson started showing up at the Cowboy games, fans began to blame loses on Simpson distracting Romo. Still, the couple celebrated his birthday together in April 2008 and attended Ashlee Simpson’s wedding together that May. Last summer, Simpson had dinner with Romo and his parents and during her concerts, she dedicated a song to Romo.

So, why did the couple split and why was it so quick? According to several sources, both have been busy with their career and just spent too much time apart. Friends say Simpson is hurt by the split and being apart had been difficult. Her Twitter messages gave no hint to a separation.

The last time the couple appeared in public was July 1st at the National Golf Tournament where Simpson sang the National Anthem and Romo and Tiger Woods shot a practice round.
