And here I thought Brett Favre was Dallas’ No. 1 enemy.
If you read my previous blog then you know that ex-Newlywed Jessica Simpson is not exactly a welcome addition to Tony Romo’s life as far as Dallas Cowboy football fans are concerned.
And now it appears she’s not very popular with Romo’s teammates either… or is she?
Yesterday, Dallas’ most outspoken player Terrell Owens provided reporters with his own take on Sunday’s Romo/Simpson debacle. (The Cowboys lost 10-6 to the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pro-Bowler had what was statistically the worst game of his career, all while his buxom blonde girlfriend sat in a luxury box cheering him on.)
In his trademark tell-it-like-HE-thinks-it-is style, Owens remarked: “Right now, Jessica Simpson is not a fan favorite — in this locker room or in Texas Stadium.”
Now, less than 24 hours after making the statement Owens is making excuses, I mean, amending his comments. Apparently, a sensitive Simpson called Romo after hearing what Owens had to say about her.
“I guess she was kind of upset about it,” Owens said.
Romo shared the news in a phone call with Owens who tried to smooth things over with the star quarterback by saying his remarks were made in jest.
“I tried to get [Romo] to call her so I can explain to her that she doesn’t really know me and that I can be funny,” Owens told the Dallas Morning News. “And that everything I say, the media will take it and run with it. It’s not a big deal. I will try to rectify the situation between her and I.”
Owens added that he told Romo he was merely having fun with a subject that had been the talk of the town for days.
“I kind of told him what was said, and he kind of expressed what Jessica had told him,” Owens said. “I was like, ‘Look, dude, it wasn’t meant like that. Everybody was having fun, and I was saying what I had to say. There it is, it’s a big story.'”
But, not all of Romo’s teammates agree that the former Mrs. Nick Lachey was the reason the Cowboys lost on Sunday.
“She’s been to two other games that we’ve won, but nobody ever said anything about them,” receiver Patrick Crayton said. “Maybe she was his good-luck charm. Nobody ever stated that.”
Regardless, the Simpson backlash has triggered a slew of gambling websites to post odds on how long the couple will be together. It’s 2-1 they’ll go at least six months, 6-1 they’ll be done within a month. The sites’ are also taking bets on whether Simpson will attend another Cowboys game before the Super Bowl. Let’s just say the odds are against it.
What do you make of the Simpson finger pointing? Do you think it is warranted?
