Melissa Rycroft may think Jason “The Bachelor” Mesnick is a jerk, but if he hadn’t dumped her on national TV, I highly doubt she would have been given the chance to kick it on “Dancing with the Stars.”
It’s just a RUMOR… right now, but sources tell PEOPLE magazine that 25-year-old Rycroft is in fact taking the celebrity contestant slot vacated by Access Hollywood host Nancy O’Dell.
According to PEOPLE, the busty brunette has had only a few days to rehearse with pro partner Tony Dovolani. However, she is expected to perform on tomorrow night’s season premiere.
Shocked? I am.
First of all, I don’t think getting duped, then dumped on national television, automatically makes one a “celebrity.” She got a raw deal on “The Bachelor” and now all of sudden Rycroft is dancing with the likes of Olympic gold medallists and Grammy-winning recording artists.
Oh, who am I kidding? Rycroft is really no different than this season’s other reality TV quasi-stars turned DWTS contestants–Steve-O being a prime example. Denise Richards fits into that category too, though she did have a couple legit acting parts prior to being known as Charlie Sheen’s crazy ex.
Who knows… Rycroft could actually be good. She was a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, and we all know how flexible she is, after viewing her dates with Jason.
You’ve got to hand it to the execs at ABC; they sure know something about synergy. There’s nothing like taking a ratings winner from one ABC reality TV series and placing her on another. Someone at the alphabet network must be taking notes from VH-1. (Flavor of Love begets Rock of Love begets Charm School begets…)
Apparently, the folks at DWTS couldn’t get a bigger name to jump into the saddle with only four days training. It makes sense. After all, what genuine celebrity has the ability to clear her calendar on such short notice? What’s more, who would want to compete after having just four days to practice, when the rest of the competition has had four weeks?
Hmmm… maybe Rycroft was a good choice after all.
